The South African government arrested Chidinma Adetshina’s mother

The South African government has announced the arrest of Anabela Rungo, the mother of Miss Universe Nigeria, Chidimma Adetshina, on suspicions of illegally acquiring a South African identity card.
The Department of Home Affairs acknowledged this in a statement on Saturday, stating that the operation was carried out by Home Affairs investigators and the South African Police Service.

In September 2024, officials identified flaws in Rungo’s residency status and labeled her persona non grata.

“The department’s investigators, supported by SAPS, detained Anabela Rungo at a property in Cape Town. “The Department withdrew Rungo’s South African documentation in September 2024 after discovering that it had been fraudulently obtained, rendering her ineligible to continue residing in South Africa,” he added.

Remember that Chidinma Adetshina withdrew from the Miss South Africa competition due to controversies regarding her nationality and suspicions of identity theft brought against her mother.
