A Shari’a court in Magajin Gari, Kaduna, has ordered a 19-year-old man named Dahiru Usman to one month in a correctional facility for attacking a sex worker, Zainab Idris.
The judge, Malam Kabir Muhammad, said that Usman could choose to pay a fine of N7,000.
The court also told him to pay N70,000 to Idris as compensation or go to jail for 12 months.
The prosecution, ASP Luka Sadau, informed the court that Idris, who lives on Kigo Road, reported to the Sabon Gari Police Station on January 15.
On that day, at about 2:30 p.m., the accused and the accuser decided to meet at a hotel on Constitution Road for a service that cost N10,000. A fight broke out in the hotel room, and Usman hit Idris on the head with a hammer, injuring her, Sadau stated.
The hammer used in the attack was shown in court as proof. Sadau asked the court to make sure the woman is paid for her injuries and losses.
Usman admitted to the charges of assault and causing hurt and showed regret for what he did.
