Shakira, a pop star, has been hospitalized in Peru due to a stomach issue, necessitating the cancellation of her Sunday performance in the Andean nation.
On Sunday, the Colombian singer disclosed this information on social media.
“I regret to inform you that I was required to visit the emergency room last night due to an abdominal issue. I am currently hospitalized.” She wrote, “The physicians who are treating me have informed me that I am not in a state of health to perform tonight.”
The singer was reported to have arrived in Lima on Saturday, marking her first performance in the city in over a decade.
Hundreds of fans greeted her at the airport, as evidenced by the videos that were uploaded to her account.
“I am optimistic that I will be able to perform the show I have prepared for you all by tomorrow and that I will be released from the hospital as soon as possible,” Shakira stated in her post.
Shakira, who is recognized in the Spanish-speaking world for her hits such as La Tortura with Spaniard Alejandro Sanz and her 2023 diss track against ex-partner Gerard Piqué, which was produced by Argentine DJ Bizarrap, is considered a pioneer in the transition of Latin artists to the English-speaking market.
Hips Don’t Lie, her most popular song to date, features her now-hallmark gyrating dance moves and was performed in collaboration with Wyclef Jean.
It was learned that the singer’s subsequent performance in Lima is scheduled for Monday. Last week, she initiated her tour in Brazil.
