The Niger State Police Command has arrested Umar Mohammed, a 26-year-old male, for allegedly defiling a six-year-old girl in Bangi, Mariga Local Government Area.
According to the state police command, in a statement made by Public Relations Officer Wasiu Abiodun, the event occurred on January 27, 2025, at approximately 9 p.m., and was reported to officers at Bangi Division.
Abiodun added that Mohammed, an unmarried farmer from Farar-Doka village, was arrested as a result of a direct accusation that he violated the child on January 26 at approximately 8:30 p.m.
The police PRO stated that the six-year-old victim was taken on an errand to a neighboring shop but returned late and in tears. Enquiries revealed a terrible fact.
Abiodun claimed that Mohammed approached the youngster on her way back from the shop, led her to a nearby bush, and committed the crime.
The victim was transferred to Bangi’s General Hospital for treatment, while Mohammed was arrested and questioned.
“He confessed to the crime,” Abiodun said.
“He has since been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department for further investigation and prosecution.”
