FUGUS Graduates 2,229 Students

The Federal University Gusau (FUGUS) has officially enrolled 2,229 students for the academic year 2023/2024, marking an important milestone in the institution’s development. At the university’s Convocation Square, students took the Matriculation Oath, confirming their identity as genuine members of the 12-year-old school.

343 matriculated students were admitted to the newly founded College of Health Sciences, which provides programs in MBBS, Nursing Sciences, Dental Sciences, Physiotherapy, and Dietetics. The inclusion of these programs demonstrates the university’s commitment to bridging healthcare delivery gaps in Northwest Nigeria.

Addressing the incoming students, Vice-Chancellor Professor M.G. Abubakar congratulated them on successfully completing the admissions process and asked them to be vigilant and security-conscious while on campus. He highlighted the importance of reporting any suspicious acts to security officials. He also warned students against engaging in examination malpractice, cultism, sexual harassment, and drug misuse, stating that such vices carry serious punishments as indicated in the Student Handbook.

Dr. Mu’awiyya Umar Ladan, Dean of Student Affairs, praised the Vice-Chancellor for his unwavering support in ensuring the successful completion of the matriculation process.

The ceremony was attended by key stakeholders such as university administrators, the Provost of the College of Health Sciences, Deans of Faculties, Directors, Heads of Departments and Units, traditional rulers, parents, and students. The program included poetry recitations and theater performances emphasizing the value of unity in diversity.

Professor Abubakar encouraged students to maintain strong ethical standards, discipline, and respect for constituted authority throughout their academic careers.

He reaffirmed the university’s commitment to providing a positive learning environment that promotes academic performance and character development.

With this newest matriculation, FUGUS expands its academic offerings and strengthens its role in furthering education, research, and healthcare in Nigeria.
