The federal government has asked businesses to reflect lower food prices and avoid abusing customers. The Minister of Agriculture and Natural Resources, Abubakar Kyari, revealed this on Tuesday during the 2025 Wheat Farmers Green Field Day in Dabi village, Ringim Local Government Area, Jigawa.
He condemned shops’ casual attitude in reflecting the decrease in their sales despite the price drop, calling it unpatriotic and unacceptable.

“The federal government is aware of a large decline in food costs throughout key markets, notably for staple commodities like as flour, sugar, rice, and pasta. However, it is profoundly troubling that many shopkeepers, bakeries, and store owners have refused to reflect this reduction in their selling prices, depriving Nigerians of the relief they deserve.

“In prior months, stakeholders in the retail value chain expressed worry about the rising cost of food goods. Prices for flour have reduced from N81,000 per bag to less than N60,000, while spaghetti has gone from N20,000 to N15,000. “It is only fair and just to let consumers benefit from food price reduction,” according to Kyari.

He reaffirmed the government’s commitment to ensuring food availability and collaborating with relevant stakeholders to reflect current market conditions.

According to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), the event was planned in partnership with the Flour Milling Association of Nigeria, the federal government, and the Jigawa state government.
