President Bola Tinubu is expected to subsidize Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), also referred to as gasoline or fuel, to ₦500 per litre by the middle of 2025, according to Solomon Dalung, a former minister of youth and sports.
He claims that the government will lower the price of gasoline in an effort to instill in Nigerians the traditional belief that they have suddenly become politicians and are taking governance seriously.
Dalung emphasized that the anticipated price of gasoline will be a ruse to entice Nigerians ahead of the general elections in 2027, claiming that the Tinubu administration is pulling a practical joke on the country’s citizens.
He stated:
“I mean, the President came up with the same cost-reflective measures or renewed hope while he was implementing the subsidies’ gone comment. I warned Nigerians that day to brace themselves for a fresh sense of despair. Nigerians are extremely depressed as of right now. Therefore, one must be cautious when listening to any statements made by this regime.
“There will come a day when this fuel rise occurs. The government will engage in political pranks since it has no interest of developing Nigeria.
By the middle of this year, they plan to have the president come out and declare, “We have heard the cries of Nigerians.” We have implemented a 50% subsidy for gasoline, which will reduce the price to about ₦500.
