Nigeria Customs imposes 4% FOB import charge

The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has placed a 4% duty on the Free On-Board (FOB) value of imports.
Abdullahi Maiwada, the NCS’s spokesman, announced this in an Abuja statement on Wednesday.

Maiwada stated that the direction was consistent with the terms of the Nigeria Customs Service Act (NCSA) 2023.

He said:

“In accordance with Section 18 (1) of NCSA 2023, the NCS imposes a 4% charge on the Free On-Board (FOB) value of imports.

“The FOB price, which is computed based on the value of imported products, including their cost and transportation charges up to the port of loading, is critical to the service’s proper operation.

Furthermore, the NCS notes stakeholders’ concerns about the ongoing collection of the 1% Comprehensive Import Supervision Scheme (CISS) fee.

“It is a regulation charge imposed to pay Nigeria’s Destination Inspection Scheme, in addition to the 4% FOB levy.

“As a responsive government agency, the service wishes to assure the general public that extensive consultation is ongoing with the Federal Ministry of Finance to address all agitations raised by our esteemed stakeholders.”
